The closures will take place during times when "traffic flows are at their lowest"

Drivers are being warned to expect disruption as a major route closes for resurfacing works.

National Highways said the A40 westbound between Cheltenham and Gloucester will shut at 20:00 GMT on Friday until 06:00 GMT on Monday.

A full closure will be in place between M5 junction 11 (Golden Valley Interchange) to the Elmbridge Court roundabout

Kevin Gibbs, National Highways project manager, said: "We advise drivers to plan ahead and allow a little extra time. Once complete, these improvements will benefit road users for many years to come.”

From Monday, overnight closures will also be in place between the Arle Court and Elmbridge Court roundabouts until 19 November, except on weekends.

During the weekend closure, drivers will be able to access Cheltenham via M5 junction 11 as normal, or Gloucester via the B4063 diversion or from junction 11A.

On weeknights, drivers exiting the M5 at junction 11 will be able to join the A40 but in the eastbound direction only, with clearly signed diversion routes also in place for HGVs.

Mr Gibbs continued: “To minimise disruption, we’re carrying out the work on the one weekend and weeknights when traffic flows are at their lowest.

“We understand that road closures can be frustrating, we’re keeping the closures to an absolute minimum and we thank all drivers in advance for their co-operation and patience while we carry out these essential works."
