Two people have been arrested and inquiries were ongoing to locate further suspects after a man sustained "significant facial injuries" in Plymouth on Sunday, police said.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the man was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident in Manor Street but his injuries were described as not life-threatening or life-changing.
A 17-year-old male from the city was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and had been released on bail, pending further inquiries, police said.
Officers also said a man, aged 28, from Plymouth, was arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent and remained in police custody.
Police, along with other emergency services, attended the scene at about 13:25 GMT and a police cordon was established, which has since been lifted.
"The police helicopter was also deployed for area searches in relation to this report," police added.
Police asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information or dashcam footage which could help with inquiries to get in contact.
