Boy bailed after alleged hammer attack at school

A teenage boy has been released on bail after an alleged assault involving a hammer at a school.

Police were called to Redhill Academy, in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, after reports a pupil had been hit with a hammer at about 09:45 GMT on Monday.

A 15-year-old, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, has been bailed pending further inquiries, police said on Tuesday.

The injured pupil was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries which were not believed to be life-altering, the force added.

On Tuesday, the academy's head teacher Mike Hardy said: "Our staff dealt with a difficult situation swiftly and with professionalism, allowing students to continue their school day in a calm and mature manner.

He described the alleged attack as an "isolated but upsetting incident" and thanked parents for supporting pupils.

He said the school was working with the police as the investigation continued.
