A project to create a leisure centre and office complex in Swadlincote has taken a step forward with the release of new designs.

South Derbyshire District Council is expected to spend £59m on the new facilities at Cadley Park, which it is hoped will be completed in 2028.

The facility would replace the current Green Bank Leisure Centre in Swadlincote, which would be demolished as part of a town centre redevelopment.

The plans are now open for public consultation.

The council announced in January that the buildings in Civic Way, where Green Bank is based, were becoming unfit for purpose.

If the project moves forward, the current leisure centre and office building will be demolished when the new facilities are completed.

Robert Pearson, leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said: "A project like this is complicated and there has been a huge amount of work going on in the background to get us to this stage.

"But of course, these key milestones in the programme are the most exciting, as we all get to take a sneak peek at what's been happening, and the plans for this future new addition to our district."

The consultation will be open to the public until 12 December.
