Jersey interim CEO contract could be extended

Jersey’s government’s interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) could remain in the post longer than expected.
Dr Andrew McLaughlin had been due to lead the island’s civil service until May 2024.
But the Chief Minister said a recruitment process to find a permanent CEO was suspended due to January’s vote of no confidence.
Deputy Lyndon Farnham said talks were consequently ongoing about a “short or longer term” extension to Mr McLaughlin’s contract.
'Stability and continuity'
“This will provide a period of stability and continuity, supporting a focus on performance and delivery for Islanders,” said Mr Farnham, in response to a written question., external
Mr McLaughlin began work as interim CEO in September 2023, following the resignation, in March, of Suzanne Wylie.
He was seconded to the role under an agreement between Jersey’s government and NatWest.
An international recruitment process, under the guidance of the Jersey Appointments Commission, began in November 2023 to find a permanent Chief Executive Officer.
Candidates were asked to apply for the role by 12 January 2024.
Mr Farnham said a further update on leadership of the civil service would follow.
