Witnesses to a crash in which an 89-year-old man later died are being urged to contact police.

The blue Vauxhall Astra crashed on the A685, near Grayrigg, near Kendal, Cumbria, at about 17:20 BST on 22 August.

The 85-year-old driver and her passenger, Ronald Simpkins, were both taken to hospital, Cumbria Police said.

Mr Simpkins, of Yarm, near Stockton-on-Tees, died on 24 August, the force added. The driver has been discharged.

Cumbria Police said there were several witnesses at the scene, including some who offered help.

The force said officers were "keen to hear from those people to help with their investigation".
