Primary school opening delayed over pupil numbers

The new primary school will not open until 2028 at the earliest

The opening of a new primary school has been further delayed until at least September 2028 because of a borough's surplus in places.
Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) councillors said in December 2023 they supported the future opening of the new school in Chiltern Road in Maidenhead in principle.
But it was delayed until September 2026 and last year the project was pushed back again to September 2027.
The council's cabinet approved delaying it again on Tuesday and it will reconsider the decision in autumn 2026.
The site is currently used as a special needs careers hub, run by Manor Green School, which will continue until at least May 2027.
A report prepared by RBWM showed overall demand for reception and primary school places across the borough was low, but the need for secondary school places was stable.
