A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police said a man in his 40s was stabbed during an assault outside a property in Parliament Street at about 07:20 BST on Monday.

The force said the victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-altering or life-threatening.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Det Sgt James Hirst said: "We continue to believe this was an isolated incident involving people who are known to each other.

"Dedicated teams of officers have been working hard using all the investigative tools at our disposal and neighbourhood teams have also been deployed on additional patrols.

"We're grateful to those who have already provided information but would urge anyone else who can assist to get in touch without delay."
