A driver is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after the car he was driving hit the central reservation on the M62.

The 21-year-old, who is from the Manchester area, was driving a Kia Rio which crashed on the M62 eastbound just past junction 32 at Pontefract at about 02:10 BST.

West Yorkshire Police said the motorway was closed for several hours afterwards but has now reopened.

The driver was taken to hospital where his injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.

Officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the crash to contact them.
