Police investigating the rape of a 16-year-old student in Dundee believe the suspect was captured on CCTV.
Officers said the girl had been out with a friend when the pair were approached by the male suspect.
After leaving her friend, the man attacked the girl in a small car park in the Cowgate area of Dundee.
Detectives said the incident happened between 01:00 and 01:30 on Sunday.
The officer leading the inquiry said a grainy image of the man believed to be responsible was captured on CCTV.
Det Insp Graeme Wishart said: "It's the very early stages of the inquiry, but the main positives are the initial CCTV trawls.
"We obviously have a sighting of the person responsible but we need to develop that into getting his identification."
The detective said the girl had been with a friend prior to the attack.
He said: "The two friends had been socialising and were arranging their own ways home.
"The male spoke to both of them and then the friend left the area.
"He wasn't known to them prior to this."
DI Wishart said the girl had walked into the city centre after the attack and was seen distressed by a member of the public, who alerted police officers.
The detective said a dedicated team have been carrying out CCTV and door-to-door inquiries.
The suspect is described as about 20-years-old, white, of slim build, and average height, with a short beard.
He was wearing a beige or khaki jacket, a black T-shirt, dark trousers and light brown boots.
