The M5 has been closed in both directions following a "serious collision" in the early hours of the morning, police said.

The motorway is shut between J20 near Clevedon and J21 near Weston-super-Mare, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

It has been closed in both directions since 02:00 GMT and National Highways say the road is not expected to reopen until about 11:45 GMT.

Elsewhere the M48 Severn Bridge is also closed in both directions due to strong winds.

Traffic is being diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

Traffic monitoring site, INRIX, is also reporting severe congestion to the A370 between Weston and Backwell, along the northbound M5 diversion route.
