Police have appealed for witnesses after a car left a road leaving one man dead and three injured.

Essex Police said the four were in a BMW that had been travelling from Cock Clarks towards Cold Norton at about 14:30 GMT on Sunday, when the vehicle went off Hackmans Lane.

A 38-year-old man died at the scene and three others were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries.

Police want to speak with the driver of a small dark-coloured Mini-type vehicle, believed to be an older woman, who they described as a key witness to the incident.

The road was closed for several hours while investigative and recovery work was carried out.

The force has asked for anyone else who may have seen the incident, or who has dash cam footage from the area at the time, to get in contact.
