Plea to introduce park and ride in market town

Uppingham Town Council said it is "always open" to the idea of introducing a park and ride scheme to the town

A plea has been made to introduce a park and ride scheme in Uppingham.
At a council meeting on Wednesday, town council chairman David Ainslie said a park and ride option was a consideration after a resident urged for the creation of a scheme to be introduced during the meeting.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said the call comes in response to car parks in the Rutland town being full on market days.
Ainslie said the authority is "always open" to the idea, but said "getting people to use it is the problem."
"This year we are receiving some money under the Shared Prosperity Fund and we are spending that in accordance with the town centre plan, which does include the provision for additional signposting to guide to car parks," said Ainslie.
"We won't be solving it tonight, but we are aware of it."
