A stretch of the A19 will close for five weeks while resurfacing works take place.

The overnight closures, starting on Monday, will be on the A19 northbound between Ryhope Spur and the A690 Herrington Interchange.

The road will be initially closed for three weeks from Monday to Friday followed by a further two-week closure every night except Saturday.

National Highways said the closures will be between 20:00 and 06:00 BST.

The works will also include drainage improvements.

There will also be signed diversions while the work is carried out.

Traffic on the A19 northbound will be diverted to the A1018 and the roundabout with the B1285 and rejoin the A19 at the A19/A690 Herrington interchange.
