A fresh influx of 165 trainee doctors has arrived at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Some are joining Blackpool Teaching Hospitals for the first time while others have returned to the trust to start their next rotation as part of their training.

The group is being supported by a range of teams from across the trust.

Chris Barben, the trust’s executive medical director, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many talented trainee doctors take the next steps in their careers with us here at the trust."

'Workforce of the future'

He added: "Blackpool Teaching Hospitals offers a rich and varied opportunity for colleagues joining us and I am sure this group of doctors will enjoy the experience as they become a key part of our team and help us build the medical workforce of the future.”

The trainee doctors will rotate into a new department at this trust or another across the North West every four months, spending time working in medicine, surgery and in community placements.

It is the first level of clinical training for qualified doctors that bridges the gap between medical school and speciality training and will take two years to complete.

After completing their foundation years, the doctors can then go on to the speciality training programme or the general practice speciality training.
