Guildford residents are being asked for their views on bays for e-bikes for hire in the town.

A consultation survey closes on Monday about several painted bays planned for the town, including in the High Street, outside the library and outside Guildford college.

At least 300 e-bikes will be available under the scheme.

Users will be able to hire a bike using an app, and bikes will be able to be left in both parking bays on the road or marked parking areas on the pavement.

The scheme is being proposed by Surrey County Council, Guildford Borough Council and the University of Surrey.

The hope is that the bikes will cut congestion on Guildford roads, improve air quality and provide low-cost public transport for the town.

The project has a proposed launch date of summer 2024.

Surrey County Council said it is in a position to start installing parking bays for the bikes.

A previous consultation was held regarding the locations of the bays.
