A lorry driver who hit a car and cut through traffic narrowly avoiding other vehicles, before assaulting a police officer, has been jailed.
Jurijs Pirogovs, 52, from Wolverhampton, also ploughed through a red light and straddled multiple lanes in Stafford in July last year, Staffordshire Police said.
The force brought him to a stop in Lichfield Road, after first being alerted to an articulated lorry colliding with a car in the Lammascote Road area of the town.
Pirogovs admitted dangerous driving, assaulting the officer once he got out of his cab and driving without insurance or a licence at Stafford Crown Court. He was jailed for 18 months.
He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident and was disqualified from driving for 21 months.
Footage from his dashcam subsequently revealed that he had gone through a red traffic light, crossed multiple lanes, hit a kerb, and cut across traffic causing other drivers to brake, or take evasive action, the force added.
