Rapist jailed over 'repugnant' flat attack
- Published
A man who raped a woman in her flat has been jailed for six years.
Asim Hussain from Queens Park Road in Blackburn carried out the attack in February 2020, Lancashire Police said.
When she pleaded with him to stop, Hussain said: “It’ll be over in a few minutes. I really like you. It’s OK.”
The 36-year-old messaged the victim the following day to apologise, but denied any wrongdoing when he was arrested.
'Web of lies'
He was convicted of rape following a trial at Preston Crown Court on 17 May and sentenced the same day.
Det Con Vicky Heys, from the police force, said: “Hussain carried out this repugnant attack in the victim’s own home – a place where she was entitled to feel safe.
"He then concocted a web of lies in a bid to undermine the victim’s truthful account and distance himself from any wrongdoing.
“I would like to place on record my admiration for the bravery the victim has shown throughout this process, given the profound and ongoing impact Hussain’s sexual attack has had on her."
