A foodbank has launched an urgent appeal for donations over the winter period.

Bournemouth Foodbank has provided more than 100,000 meals to more than 10,000 people so far in 2023.

But with the increase in pressure that winter brings for families, it said more turn to the foodbank for help.

Emma Revie, chief executive of the Trussell Trust which runs the foodbank, said: "We can't ignore the pressing challenges that lie ahead."

Bournemouth Foodbank said it needed to "ensure no-one goes hungry".

It added cash donations would help fund employability and finance workshops "to build a more resilient future" for users of the foodbank.

It added: "We've observed that even though we had fewer users in the recent months, the numbers are rising again, making this winter likely to be one of our most demanding."

Around a fifth of all meals provided by the foodbank this year went to children, with the figures representing "real people in our community facing real hardship", according to the foodbank.

All donations of up to £250 would be matched by the Aviva Community Fund, it added.
