A farmer has been praised by police for his "quick action" after helping a man stranded in a car close to a water-filled ditch.

Officers said the man, in his 60s, had travelled from Yorkshire and was stranded in the car in Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, for about three hours before the farmer found him.

The farmer then helped rescue the man from the car alongside the fire service, an ambulance crew and police.

The driver was taken to hospital and his family contacted.
