A car driver has been seriously injured in a crash involving a lorry that led to a closure on one of south Cheshire's main roads.

The collision between a blue Kia Sportage and an HGV happened on the A500's Meremore Moss Roundabout at Weston, at about 06:15 GMT.

The woman driving the car was taken to hospital for treatment and no arrests had been made, Cheshire Police said.

Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service added that a person trapped in the car was safely removed using lifting equipment before being put into the care of paramedics.

Two fire engines from Crewe, as well as one fire engine and the major rescue unit from Lymm, were called to the scene.

The closure led to long delays on the A500 and the fire service urged drivers to use alternative routes.

A stretch was shut westbound between the roundabout and Weston Gate Roundabout, but later reopened.
