Arrest after woman raped in shopping centre alley

Police cordoned off an area next to the Guildborne Centre after the attack

A man has been arrested after a woman was raped in an alleyway next to a shopping centre.

Sussex Police said the attack took place between Chatsworth Road and the Guildbourne Centre in Worthing between 03:00 and 04:00 BST on Saturday.

A 42-year-old man from Worthing is currently in custody, police said.

Anyone with information or footage of the area from the time of the incident has been asked to contact police.

"We will be maintaining a presence in the area as we continue our investigation," said Det Insp Gary Jacobs.

"We appreciate the support the public has given us in our house-to-house enquiries."

The victim has received support from specially-trained officers, he added.
