Girl, 3, home for Christmas after cancer treatment

After spending last Christmas in hospital, Jada will be at home with her family this year

Parents Rob and Natalie say they have received the greatest gift of all this Christmas.

Their little girl, Jada, spent last Christmas - and her birthday in January - in hospital undergoing treatment for a rare tumour in her lung which doctors said was the size of a brick.

But this year, the three-year-old will be back with her family at home in Redditch, Worcestershire.

"The fact we're going to be at home as a family, it's going to be really great, really special," said Mr Johnson.

Jada's issues began in August 2023 when she was diagnosed with a pleuropulmonary blastoma.

It is a rare, aggressive type of childhood cancer which forms in lungs.

"That's when the doctors took us into a separate room and told us that she had a tumour in her chest taking up three-quarters of her chest capacity," said her mother, Natalie.

"She was so weak at this point she had to be put on a ventilator in an induced coma."

She then had 25 weeks of chemotherapy.

"We didn't know when it was going to end," said Rob.

"But over the course of the chemotherapy, the tumour did shrink…which enabled the surgeons to cut out what was remaining."

Jada's parents were told she would have to spend time on a ventilator in intensive care, but the surgery was successful enough that she was able to go straight into the recovery room.

"She's just so strong-willed", said Natalie.

Cancer Research UK has presented Jada with an award after her treatment.

"It's going to be fantastic to see her opening her presents at home," added Rob.
