A lane of a major dual carriageway will be closed for four days for urgent gas works.

Half of the A34 southbound carriageway near Botley, Oxfordshire, will be shut while engineers fix a leak in a recently fitted pipe.

The work will begin on Monday and is expected to take four days.

It follows previous closures in November and March that led to long delays for motorists.

The kerbside southbound lane will be closed about 328ft (100m) north of the Botley Interchange to just past Stanley Close.

A 40mph temporary speed limit will be in place around the works.

Gas company SGN said the work would not affect the gas supply of residents and apologised for any inconvenience the work may cause.

Bradley Barlow, spokesperson for SGN, said: "We understand people can get frustrated by roadworks and therefore we only use traffic management that we feel is efficient enough to complete these works safely for ourselves and the public."
