Pilot dies after glider crashes into Sussex field

An investigation has been launched into the death of a pilot whose glider crashed into a field in West Sussex.

A 73-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident on Wednesday, emergency services said.

Sussex Police said the glider came down near Crouch Lane, Barlavington, at about 18:05 BST.

The man's next of kin and a coroner have been notified.

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said its crews were among the emergency services that attended the scene.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has opened an investigation into the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to contact police on 101.
