Girl footballers sought for international games

Team Coventry is hoping to find players who will represent the city "impeccably" at the International Children's Games

Talented girl footballers from Coventry are being invited to try out for an international competition in Mexico.

Team Coventry is holding a trial, external on Friday for players between the ages of 13 and 15.

Those chosen will represent their city against youngsters from 110 countries in the International Children's Games, external in July.

Team manager Danny Kingham said was looking for talent "with the right attitude".

“We want children who are going to go away and represent our city impeccably," he added.

Competitors from 600 cities worldwide aged 12 to 15 participate in the games, which Coventry hosted in 2022.

But Mr Kingham said he was looking for "really exciting players" at the older end of the spectrum.

“It’s basically talent spotting, really, and looking for children with the talent but also with the right attitude.”

Team Coventry, which won six medals at last year's event in South Korea, will also be selecting a track and field team towards the end of Februrary.

Sky Blues in the Community is supporting the football selection event, which starts on President Kennedy School's 3G pitch at 16:30 GMT.
