Police have named a pedestrian who was killed in a crash.
Andrew Murphy, 40, died at the scene after being struck by a car on the B1318 Great North Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, at 03:00 GMT on Thursday.
Police said the driver of the car stayed at the scene.
Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Officers said the family of Mr Murphy, from Gosforth, had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.
Sgt John Sanderson, of the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: “As ever, our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family who have had to come to terms with the heart-breaking loss of their loved one.
“It is for them we will continue to conduct a thorough investigation and find answers for the questions they will undoubtedly have.”
He added that it was believed Mr Murphy was in Newcastle city centre in the hours before the crash and the force wanted the public's help to establish his movements.
