Two schools in the Guildford area were put into lockdown after police received a report of a man with a weapon in the area.

Surrey Police said a suspect was arrested on suspicion of affray after the report on Monday.

The force said it "responded swiftly" to ensure the suspect was "located and detained".

The schools, which have not been named by police, have since reopened.

A police spokesperson said the schools "implemented their lockdown procedures to ensure the safety of pupils, parents and staff".

Surrey Police said an investigation was ongoing.
