Lincoln will soon host its first Parkrun for children if enough volunteers can be found, organisers have said.

There are plans to hold a 1.2-mile (2km) event, aimed at four to 14-year-olds, each Sunday, at Boultham Park.

The planning team is trying to recruit directors to oversee the event as well as a "core team" of volunteers.

Lincolnshire already hosts three junior Parkruns in Sleaford, Grantham and Boston.

Matt Ratcliffe, the co-event director of the Boultham Park Junior Parkrun, said: "We need volunteers each week to provide reliability so people know it is going to definitely start at 9 o'clock every Sunday morning.

"The junior event is a bit more intensive because we need to keep everyone safe and, if anything does happen, we're on hand to deal with it."

The roles include run directors, marshals, timekeepers and people to scan runners' barcodes.

Mr Ratcliffe said he hoped the first event would take place "later this year".
