A website for the general election set to be held in Guernsey in 2025 has been launched.

The States of Guernsey said the site had been made available more than a year in advance to provide support and information for people considering whether to stand as a deputy.

More content would be added to the website in the lead-up to the election next June, officials said.

Deputy Carl Meerveld said the more "we can do to give people a sense of what is involved, the better".

'Extremely challenging role'

There will also be two informal meet-and-greet drop-in events held this month.

The sessions will be on 16 and 20 April, where people can talk to current States members and ask questions.

The first will be held between 17:00 BST to 20:30 at Beau Sejour concourse, and the second between 10:00 and 13:00 at St James cafe.

Mr Meerveld, president of the States Assembly and Constitution Committee, said: "This early launch, coupled with the events we are holding, will help people who are having to weigh up what is a very big decision.

"It is an extremely challenging role, but one that is essential to the success of our island, and one that can be very rewarding."
