Eight of Norfolk's nine MPs are Conservative, with Labour’s Clive Lewis representing Norwich South.

But the political landscape could be set to change when voters head to the polls in six weeks for the general election on Thursday, 4 July.

These are the constituencies to watch in the coming weeks.

Norwich North MP Chloe Smith will stand down in the general election

Norwich North is being eyed as a key target by Labour, who hope their candidate Alice Macdonald could turn the seat red.

It has been held by Conservative Chloe Smith for the past 15 years, since she won a by-election in 2009.

But Ms Smith has announced she was not planning to stand for re-election. The Conservatives are instead fielding Charlotte Salomon.

The Liberal Democrats, Greens and Reform are also standing in what is set to be a key battleground in this election.

Great Yarmouth

Another seat to watch is Great Yarmouth, where current Conservative MP, Sir Brandon Lewis, has also announced he will stand down at the next general election.

The seat has a history of changing hands between Labour and the Conservatives. It was previously held by Labour’s Tony Wright, who lost to Mr Lewis in 2010.

Labour’s Keir Cozens is looking to unseat the Conservatives, who have yet to announce their candidate. Reform is also hoping to do well in the constituency as are the Greens.

North Norfolk

Conservative Duncan Baker was elected to represent North Norfolk back in 2019, replacing the Liberal Democrat Norman Lamb, who had held the seat since 2001.

The Liberal Democrats are hoping to regain the seat with candidate Steffan Aquarone.

Labour’s Cathy Cordiner-Achenbach is also standing in the seat, as is Jason Patchett for Reform and Liz Dixon for the Greens.

Former Prime Minister Liz Truss is hoping to defend her seat in South West Norfolk

South West Norfolk

All eyes will be on South West Norfolk, which is being defended by former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Ms Truss returned a majority of 26,195 in the last general election in 2019.

She has been selected to defend the seat again but is facing competition from independent candidate James Bagge.

Mr Bagge has been campaigning against Ms Truss and could split the traditional Conservative vote.

Local Labour councillor Terry Jermy is also standing against Ms Truss, who was in office for 49 days in September 2022.

Toby McKenzie is Reform's candidate, while the Liberal Democrats are fielding ex-HGV driver Josie Ratcliffe.

South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon will stand down at the election, having represented the constituency since 2001.

South Norfolk

Once considered a Tory safe seat, South Norfolk has been held by Conservative Richard Bacon since 2001.

But Norfolk’s longest-serving MP has announced he, too, plans to stand down at the next general election.

The Conservatives will be hoping their new candidate, Poppy Simister-Thomas, will see off competition from Ben Goldsborough who has been selected as Labour’s candidate for the seat.

The Greens' Catherine Rowett, a former member of the European Parliament, is their candidate.

Reform and the Liberal Democrats are also fighting for the seat.
