University funding boost for apprentices

Nearly £300,000 has been granted to the University of Cumbria to support apprenticeships.
The Office for Students (OfS) funding boost will see the university expand its offer to apprentices.
From September, it will offer apprenticeships in youth work and digital design alongside existing opportunities including a UK-first forester scheme and a degree apprenticeship in diagnostic radiography.
Vice Chancellor Professor Julie Mennell said apprenticeships were important to the "current and future workforce".
She said: "As co-chair of Cumbria’s People, Employment and Skills Strategy group I know first-hand how important apprenticeship provision and apprentices are.
"We are therefore very pleased to have secured additional funding to expand our provision.
"Our focus on the delivery of higher-level and industry relevant skills is a critical one impacting both individuals and our economy."
