A second Aldi supermarket will open in Ashford, Kent, despite concerns extra traffic will make people’s lives “miserable”.

The store will be built near the A28 at Kennington, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Charles Ellish, of Kennington Community Council, said it will negatively affect the “already congested” road.

Aldi said it needs to open another site due to demand and plans to change the current road layout to ease congestion.

Mr Ellish told Ashford Borough Council's planning committee the road change would “permanently afflict Canterbury Road, making life miserable for Kennington residents”.

All 11 councillors on the planning committee voted in favour of the plans.

Kent County Council Highways raised no issues with the scheme.
