Man, 81, seriously injured in hit-and-run

An 81-year-old man has been seriously hurt in a hit-and-run in Renfrewshire.

The man was crossing Main Street in Elderslie, near the junction with Kings Road, when he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at about 13:30 on Wednesday.

Police said the car failed to stop and was found a short time later on Hartfield Road. It is currently being examined and the force is attempting to trace the occupants.

The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

Sgt Chris Hoggans urged anyone who witnessed the crash or saw a black Vauxhall Astra being driven in the town to contact the non-emergency line, external.

He also urged drivers to check their dash cam footage in case it captured anything relevant to the incident.
