Manx equestrian Yasmin Ingham has said she is "incredibly honoured and proud" to represent Team GB at the Olympics in Paris.

The rider, from Greeba, has been selected as one of four riders in the eventing squad, competing at her first Olympic Games with her horse Banzai du Loir.

The 27-year-old will compete alongside Tokyo gold medallists Laura Collett and Tom McEwen, and current European champion Ros Canter.

She said competing in the Olympics had been "a dream for as long as I can remember", and she would continue to "train hard to give it our absolute best shot".

"I’m hugely grateful to my whole team around me who have supported me on this journey," said Ingham, who was named the 2023 sportswoman of the year at the Isle of Man Sports Awards.

A rising star, she won individual gold on Banzai du Loir at the World Eventing Championships in 2022.

She has described him as "my horse of a lifetime".

'Medal ambitions'

A total of 16 competitors make up the Team GB Equestrian squad, with two further teams of four in the showjumping and dressage categories.

Helen Nicholls, Equestrian Team Leader, said there was an "exciting balance of experience, talent and potential".

"We head to the Games in a strong position, and with medal ambitions."

“The hours of preparation, enormous sacrifice and total dedication will now be put to the ultimate test," she added.

The 2024 Olympic Games kicks off in Paris on 27 July, and runs until 6 August.

The equestrian events will take place in the ground of the Palace of Versailles, about 10 miles west of the French capital.
