A man was taken to hospital after an assault in Scarborough, police said.

Officers were called to Wreyfield Drive at 23:35 BST on Saturday to reports of the assault, North Yorkshire Police said.

Police also believe a "firearm of some description" was discharged in the area around the same time.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail.

The victim was treated for minor injuries, the force said.

Police are also investigating a second incident that occurred earlier that evening, near to the row of shops on Colescliffe Road.

It was reported that an "argument and disturbance" took place at around 22:00 BST.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who might have captured either incident on doorbell or dashcam footage.
