Part of a major road has reopened following a crash involving multiple vehicles.

Leicestershire Police closed the A42 in both directions between junction 13 for Ashby-de-la-Zouch and junction 23a of the M1, near East Midlands Airport, at about 12:00 BST on Monday.

In an update on social media, National Highways said the northbound carriageway reopened shortly before 14:00, as well as a lane on the southbound road.

Drivers were continuing to face delays of about 30 minutes on approach from the M1 southbound.

National Highways said its traffic officers and Leicestershire Police were called to the scene.

Motorists have been encouraged to follow diversions highlighted on electronic road signs in the area.
