Break-in at household goods charity shop

A charity shop suffered estimated losses of up to £2,500 in an overnight break-in, the non-profit organisation has said.

Clothes, watches and antiques were taken from Love Coventry charity shop at about 02:45 BST on Monday.

A hammer was taken from the organisation's van outside and a fire exit door was smashed, it said.

The shop, which has released CCTV images, stated a man and woman were spotted.

People donate household goods and clothes which the organisation refurbishes, and items are sold at "low cost" at the premises in Sparkbrook Street.

On Monday morning it said it was closed until further notice and police were there to investigate, but on Tuesday stated it believed "we must reopen today".

The organisation thanked people on Facebook for their support.

It stated "lots of challenges make it hard to survive" and underlined that there were massive expenses of operating the store, overheads and shoplifters.

"Love Coventry belongs to you all, and we run here together.

"You are not just our customers, you are our power and encouragement. Without you, we are pointless. Your role in our survival is invaluable."
