A new express bus route is launching in Brighton which is aimed at offering passengers faster connections to the city centre.

The route, service 1X, will replace service 1A and operate between Mile Oak and Brighton Marina, via the city centre, the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Hove and Portslade.

Brighton & Hove buses who operate the route, say it "will be the fastest way to get from the east to the west of the city".

The bus, which launches later, will follow the same route of the service 1 bus, but with fewer stops.

Service 1 will continue to operate, the company added.

The 1X bus stops will have bright pink bus stop poles marking them.

It will run at 15 minute intervals throughout the day and operate until midnight.

Ed Wills, managing director at Brighton & Hove Buses, said: “This new express route will serve as a new lifeline to our bustling city and offer residents quicker journeys times from A to B."

All the buses will have two wheelchair bays and spaces for two buggies.
