A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Cumbria.

The 33-year-old faces charges over an attack on 27 January in William Morris Avenue in Cleator Moor, near Whitehaven.

Cumbria Police said at the time that the male victim was taken to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries.

The defendant, from the Whitehaven area, has also been charged with assault, two counts of possessing a knife in a public place and assaulting an emergency worker.

He appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday morning via a video link from custody.

No pleas were formally entered and the case was adjourned until 8 March.
