Ten new Jersey sites get protected status

Dolmen de Faldouet is among the 10 new sites

Ten new Jersey sites have got protected status after being named Sites of Special Geological Interest (GSSIs), says the Government of Jersey.

Listing means that landowners might need to apply for permission in future to carry out works that affect geological features, such as making excavations, removing rock or inserting a probe into the surface, for example.

The first GSSIs in Jersey were designated in 2009.

The new sites are:

• Dolmen de Faldouet

• Noirmont Point

• Les Varines

• St Peter's Valley near Gargate Mill and near Le Moulin de Quetivel

• Fliquet Bay

• La Rocque

• Le Dicq to the Lido (Havre des Pas)

• Beauport and Fiquet

• Petit Portelet

• Mont Orgueil Castle Headland

A further six sites are going through the listing process.
