The new chief constable of Humberside Police has been confirmed as Chris Todd.
Mr Todd, who is the current assistant chief constable of Northern Ireland, was named as the preferred candidate for the role last month.
He was confirmed by the Humberside Police and Crime panel on Friday and will officially start in his new role on 7 April.
Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison welcomed the appointment.
"The performance of Humberside Police has continued to improve and remains the highest performing force in the country," he said.
"I will be challenging Mr Todd to continue this trajectory for the force so that the public continue to see sustainable improvements in service."
The force had been without a full-time chief since Paul Anderson retired at short notice in June.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct later confirmed it was investigating Mr Anderson and said he faced allegations of gross misconduct.
In October, the His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services, raised "serious concerns" about senior leadership within the force.
Mr Todd, who has agreed a five-year contract for the role which was advertised with an annual salary of £171,519, started his police career in Hong Kong in 1990.
He joined West Midlands Police in 1996 and held roles with the National Crime Agency before joining the Police Service of Northern Ireland in 2022.
Mr Todd said: "I intend to bring consistent, stable and ethical leadership to build on the excellent work that is already being delivered every day.
"I will be striving to make Humberside Police an outstanding, globally acclaimed police service which is victim-focused, community-focused and workforce-focused.
"I want the people across Hull, East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire to be proud of the service they receive and the service be proud of itself."
