An 11-year-old diver is celebrating breaking the world record for the most scuba dives completed before the age of 12.

Ethan from Worcester has completed 129 scuba dives since he took up the activity aged 10, breaking the previous record of 102.

Dad Paul said he was immensely proud of his son following in his footsteps, as he trained as a diving instructor.

"Ethan really fell in love with it and he's pursued this world record now for the last 12 months, ridiculous dedication to do two to three dives everyday while were on holiday," he said.

He added that the record had been recognised by world diving bodies SSI and Padi, and they had applied to have it registered with Guinness World Records.

"For somebody his age, he's just phenomenal and I'm super proud of him," he added.

The schoolboy from Warndon said he fell in love with diving the first time he came face to face with a shark, and from then all he wanted to do was explore the sea.

"It was an automatic thing, I just fell in love with it straight away.

He admits that he was nervous, but with each dive he overcame the fear and was determined to break the world record.

"Dive after dive after dive I overcame it.

"Seeing sharks is my favourite thing to do! It's the most fun and amazing thing I've done in my whole life."
