A man who brought two women to the UK from Uganda has been convicted of raping them.

Charles Isabirye, 48, had promised the women work and a place to live, but once they were here due to his false promises, he took advantage of them both being in Britain with no family or friends.

Det Con Sarah Le Boutillier, from Leicestershire Police, said Isabirye "believed himself to be above the law" and had shown "no remorse for the acts he carried out".

Isabirye, of Ratcliffe Road in Loughborough, was found guilty following a trial at Leicester Crown Court on Friday and will be sentenced at the same court on 20 October.

Isabirye's first victim reported him to Leicestershire Police in 2022, but she did not feel able to pursue the complaint at that time.

When a second victim came forward to the Northamptonshire force in 2023, she was contacted again and made a full report.

As well as being found guilty of four counts of rape against the two victims, Isabirye was convicted of breaching a restraining order and three counts of witness intimidation.

Det Con Le Boutillier added: "Both victims showed immense courage in providing not only their accounts to police, but in giving evidence in court.

"I hope this verdict brings them some comfort, knowing that they have been heard and listened to and they can now begin to move forward with their lives."
