Coventry Cathedral is marking the 25th anniversary of its Millennium Chapel by honouring locals who have made lasting impressions on the city.

The cathedral will etch the names of children or adults on the glass screen to celebrate their contributions to Coventry as part of a fundraising endeavour.

The chapel, a room previously used for flower arrangements, was re-dedicated in 2000 as an area for quiet reflection to commemorate the turn of the millennium.

The Reverend Nitano Muller told the BBC the cathedral was looking for the names of ordinary men, women and children who have touched lives in a personal capacity.

He said: "The chapel is a really special place. Its been used as an reflective space for people to have a think and pray, with the names of loved ones, benefactors, added to the beautiful transparent screen.

"We're calling on people to forward names to us as part of a new fundraising endeavour so those people can be remembered for the legacies that they've left behind."

Mr Muller said he had spoken to the family of Keaton Slater - the 12-year-old boy killed in a crash last year - about adding his name to the screen.

He said: "[Keaton] is close to our hearts and has left a lasting impression on us. As well as his family and all that they've done for the city since his passing."

While celebrity names like Cliff Richard are also on the list, Mr Muller said the cathedral was a space for everyone.

He added: "It is part of a bigger conversation to raise money for the cathedral. We will also be inviting donations to support the inclusion of these names and to help care for this special chapel for future generations."
