A rapist from Cornwall who attempted to flee the country has been jailed for 27 years.
Marc Bear, 38, from Launceston, was convicted of 13 charges of rape and sexual assault against two young female victims following a trial at Truro Crown Court.
The judge gave overnight bail as an "act of mercy" but Bear fled before being arrested at a B&B in Somerset.
His Honour Judge Simon Carr said Bear's crimes had been "brutal and systematic".
Prosecutor Bathsheba Cassell said Bear was found with his passport, cash and a train ticket in an attempt to get to London Heathrow Airport to leave the country.
Bear, who appeared via video link, was also jailed for six months concurrent to the 27-year sentence after he admitted failing to surrender for his bail.
He was placed on the Sex Offender Register for life and given a restraining order to last until further order.
