A residential and retail development in Bradford could soon be built - three years after plans were first approved.

Bradford Council approved a planning application in 2022 to redevelop a car park at the corner of Clarges Street and Little Horton Lane into 59 flats.

Under the planning agreement, the developer was required to start work within three years or the permission would expire. AMAFHH Investments claimed the project began shortly before the deadline.

The authority is expected to decide on the "confirmation of compliance" application before the end of the year, which could allow the development to begin in earnest.

The developer previously said the scheme would be the first step in a wider goal to convert the vacant Brigella Mills into housing, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

However, the car park had since become home to two street food stalls.

AMAFHH Investments said tenants were given notice to vacate on 17 August and work had started the following week.

"A lawful material start was commenced on site within the defined time limit," its application said.

The plans would see a 293 square metre commercial unit built on the ground floor and 24 one-bed flats and 35 two-bed flats built on the upper floors.

Almost 40 car parking spaces would also be built, along with 85 cycle spaces.

Speaking at the time the plans were initially submitted, the applicant said its aim was to "raise the quality of residential projects in the city".
