A former carer has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for defrauding a number of people out of thousands of pounds.

Biljana Zekavica, 53, from Guernsey, pleaded guilty to four counts of making a false representation and six counts of fraud and was sentenced at Guernsey Royal Court on Wednesday.

In a post on social media, Guernsey Police said she took "advantage of vulnerable individuals by deceiving them with false stories to obtain money".

The force described her actions as "a calculated campaign of deceit that targeted vulnerable members of our community".

It said: "Her actions left victims not only out of pocket but also emotionally harmed after their trust was abused.

"Detectives from CID conducted a detailed and methodical investigation, gathering evidence and supporting victims throughout the process."

Police have urged anyone else who may have been targeted to contact them.
