A series of rolling road closures have been confirmed ahead of a procession in Leicester this weekend.

The Milad Un Nabi procession, which has been organised by Leicester Islamic Centre for more than 30 years, is expected to attract hundreds of people, according to Leicester City Council.

It will start on Sunday from 13:15 BST at the centre in Sunderland Street, before making its way to the Central Mosque in Conduit Street.

Roads on the procession route will be closed to traffic for a short while and motorists are advised to expect delays, the city council said.

The route includes St Peters Road, East Park Road, St Saviours Road, Hartington Road, Melbourne Road, Berners Street, Maidstone Road and a section of Sparkenhoe Street.

Advance warning signs have been put in place ahead of the event, and bus operators will also make any necessary adjustments as the procession passes along its route, the council added.
