The conversion of a former pub into flats could lead to traffic and parking issues on a Leicester street, residents fear.

Plans to convert The Tudor pub, in Tudor Road, into 10 flats have been approved by Leicester City Council.

Some people in the area have raised concerns over the increased number of cars the development could bring to the area.

However, some said it was positive the unused building would be "put to good use".

Plans show the building is set to be converted into four studios, four one-bed flats and one two-bed flat, with a change to an outbuilding from a storage facility to a self-contained one-bedroom flat.

Peter Henton, 80, who has lived in the area for 47 years, was concerned about the increase in traffic the new residents would bring to the area.

He said he used to drink in the Tudor and thinks it should be brought back into use, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

"There are enough flats in the area," he said.

"It used to be lovely round here, with no parking issues.

"The amount of kids I’ve seen nearly get run over.

“There are that many pubs closing, it’s sad."

'New lease of life'

Pam Sly, 66, who lives opposite the former pub, added: “I’m not happy about it being turned into flats.

"There are too many cars already.”

However, not everyone was against the plans.

Liljana Istrefi, 39, who has recently moved to the area, said she was happy more families were moving in.

"It’s not bad news," she said.

"It’s good that the building is going to be put to good use. I wish sometimes I had a flat/smaller house to keep clean rather than this one.”

Acting on behalf of the owners of the property, applicants Design Studio Architects said they believe the plans are "coherent" with the local area.

"We believe the scheme has the potential to significantly improve the existing site, currently falling into a derelict condition and give a new lease of life to a 1900s building, whilst keeping the existing traditional features and detailing," they said.
